Micro PV inverters are connected to individual PV modules. They convert direct current (DC) from each individual PV module into alternating current (AC), which is then either used in the building or fed into the electric grid.

Micro PV inverters can be used in grid-connected residential systems and commercial/public buildings. Their main advantage is that if there is a problem with one PV module, it does not affect the whole system. They can also be relatively easy to install. However, when this inverter type has to be replaced, it is harder to reach than other inverter types.

Power ratings of PV micro-inverters range from about a hundred to several hundred watts.
